Join us for “Onion Fest” celebrating all things onion on Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 9 am to 4 pm. The festivities will take place at the Brooks Depot Museum at Powerland Heritage Park, 3995 Brooklake Ave., Brooks, Oregon 97303. Free admission!
Enjoy old-fashioned onion themed games, onion art, a raw onion eating contest, and an onion themed food contest, all with prizes for young and old! Bring a lunch and have a picnic on our spacious grounds.
A local onion grower will speak about the history of onion growing in the area at 12:00 noon. The raw onion eating contest will be at 1:00 pm, and the judging of onion themed food entries will begin at 2:00 pm. For details on entering your favorite homemade onion themed food for judging, see the Brooks Historical Society Facebook page, or contact vickicunningham11003@gmail.com.
The Brooks Depot Museum has a large display all about onions, and the local Lake Labish area in which onions have historically been planted. Complementing this display is one on the Japanese Farmers of Lake Labish, with a focus on the Fakuda family, who were well known for promoting local produce.
